Dungsam Cement Corporation Ltd.(DCCL) is a new, integrated, Greenfield cement project with a production capacity of 1.0 million tonnes of clinker and 1.36 million tonnes of cement per year. The total cost of the project is Nu. 9,511 million and it is being developed with the assistance of the Government of India.

The location of the project is at Chengkari, Nganglam, Pemagatshel Dzongkhag in eastern Bhutan.

Limestone Mines

Limestone is the main raw material for manufacturing of cement clinker. In Dungsam Cement, 91% limestone and 9% Phyllite reject will be used from two different limestone mines. 

Marungri Limestone Deposit.

The limestone deposit is located at 7km north east of plant site along the ridges of Marungri hills. 60% of the limestone will be mined from this deposit. 

Kangrezhi Limestone Deposit.

The limestone deposit is located at 6km North West of plant site, along the ridges of kangrezhi hills. 40% of the limestone will be mined from this deposit. 

Phyllite Deposit.

Phyllite is overburden and interburden reject while mining the limestone. 9% of the reject phyllite will be used with 91% of the limestone from Marungri and Kangrezhi in the ratios mentioned above which forms the Run-of -Mines for the production of clinker. 

Why two Mines? 

Marungri limestone is high in magnesium oxide and low in Silica but Kangrezhi limestone is high in silica but low in magnesium. Limestone from these two mines have to be blended in order to achieve the required grade of silica and magnesia in the run-of-mines (ROM) to produce good quality clinker"
